Healthier Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Since I've been trying to cook/bake more healthily, I decided to update my banana bread to a healthier version. You know what, it was just as good, and yet much better for you!


  • 2 cups whole wheat flour 
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup virgin coconut oil
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 large mashed overripe bananas
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • chocolate chips to taste

  1. Preheat oven to 350. 
  2. Lightly grease 2 loaf pans.
  3. Combine flour, baking soda and salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, cream together coconut oil and brown sugar. 
  5. Stir in eggs and mashed bananas.
  6. Mix banana mixture into flour mixture.
  7. Mix in flax seed and chocolate chips.
  8. Pour into loaf pans, filling half way.
  9. Bake for 50 minutes, or until top is golden brown and toothpick comes out clean.
* for muffins, bake 40 minutes.
